Shampoo can do a lot more than just wash your hair. It can also reduce the amount of harmful chemicals in the world, give a calm moment to your day and smell amazing.
I’ve been using natural shampoos for years, and also use it as a no-poo option. Over the years I’ve encountered some great products and not so great. Here I’m sharing my top picks for natural shampoos, that are safe to use everyday.
All of these products work wonders on my fine, long dark hair. I’ve never coloured, dyed or used any serious treatment as this, so my hair tends to be quite gentle. These shampoos aren’t too abrasive, but with their natural ingredients clean my hair properly, every time. After using these shampoos my hair feels clean, but without the use of harsh sulphates.

ONEKA Cedar and Sage Shampoo
I’m really into unique and great smelling shampoos. This Cedar and Sage by ONEKA is exactly the natural and relaxing smell I want while washing my hair. This blend is also specially for those with oily hair and troubled scalps, but is also for all hair types.
I first came across this brand at a local general store and was surprised by its clean ingredients. On top of the great ingredients, the product is cruelty-free, vegan and paraben and sulfate-free. There’s lots of other scents to choose from along with pairing conditioners.
Sukin Natural Balance Shampoo
Sukin’s Natural Balance Shampoo almost smells like passion fruit, and it’s delightful. That isn’t actually an ingredient though, it’s a blend of citrus, lavender and vanillin, but none of the fragrance are over-bearing.
I use a lot of different products from Sukin, and I find them all nourishing—as with this shampoo. This is my go-to shampoo at home as the larger bottle comes with a pump so it’s easy when I’m not travelling. Otherwise the pump-less bottle is better for travelling.
hif volume support
Hailing from the Abnormal Beauty company Deciem, Hair is Fabric products are meant to be ‘dry-cleaning for your hair’. In between washes, my hair can go kind of lacklustre but, this shampoo made it so much better.
I really did feel like I had more volume while using this cleanser and hydrator for my hair. Unlike other products, it has to be left in for a few minutes before rinsing out. And impressively, it never made my hair more oily from doing this.
A’kin Rosemary Shampoo
For years, A’kin was one of those brands I always saw but never tried. When I finally tried this Rosemary Shampoo by A’kin I was blown away, and it’s what I’m currently using. The botanical smell is refreshing, relaxing and kind of awakening.
What I like about this natural shampoo is that it lathers more than most others I’ve used. This makes it easier to use less while still cleaning my hair. With other natural shampoos I find I’ll have to rinse and shampoo again to get a good lather.
